About

I’m Carolyn Carrara. This is my story.

Carolyn is a loving wife and joyful mom of 6 kids. After years of therapies their youngest child Charlie was diagnosed with PDD NOS (often referred to as atypical autism). The diagnosis was crushing but Carolyn refused to accept less than what she felt God had created. Leaving no stone unturned, she researched and tried new treatments, therapies and diets. The work paid off and Charlie shed his diagnosis after an intense diet change to eradicate yeast.  The work continued after that as Carolyn tried to figure out food triggers, nutrient deficiencies and basically how to decrease the noise in Charlie’s brain so he could be more focused and calm.

He has blossomed despite the prognosis of early practitioners.  His lingering ADHD is mild/moderate and manageable yet Carolyn continues to seek full recovery. She is continually astounded at the effects of foods, supplements, and medications have on his sensitive system and and wants to share her knowledge, wisdom and encouragement with other moms walking this road.

When Charlie had his diet completely stripped, Carolyn watched a transformation of a child lost in his own world to one stepping into a life in the present.  As she continued to clean up her son, all aspects in his life improved. His thoughts became coherent and his speech flowed smoothly. Always compassionate, Charlie blossomed into a calmer loving child. No longer looking to get a rise out of his siblings, Charlie started to join the family, not just tag alongside. His miraculous changes were a beacon to all those who have known him, especially those moms who struggled with their children’s same behaviors and deficits. But food still held the family captive as Carolyn tried to discern which items would trigger emotional meltdowns and lack of focus.

As Charlie blossomed...

Carolyn continued to research therapy methods, neurology theories, detoxing diets, pharmaceutical treatments and supplement regimens that could bring about that next level of healing. A voracious reader, Carolyn thrives on learning new information which continues to shed light on Charlie’s ADHD behaviors and how they can best be healed or managed. She learned more than she’d ever want to know on the subject of inflammation caused by gluten, dairy, and dyes just to name a few. She realized her son’s body was a very sensitive vessel and what she put in impacted his whole person.

This website is a promise Carolyn made to herself years ago.  In the quiet nights with a tear strewn face she begged God for answers, and has followed His lead to that next practitioner, book, therapy, diet, supplement or medication. When told her youngest son Charlie (then age 5) would not be capable of original thought, she refused to accept it. Carolyn knew there was a child inside that wild young boy who was more than met the eye.  There were glimpses (albeit between the rocking, jumping, maniacal laughing and endless tantrums) that Charlie was there.  And Carolyn decided that if she could find a way to pull him out, she would share her work with others. Now age 10, and in 3rd grade, Charlie is doing well in the mainstream classroom, no longer with an IEP. He has wonderful friends and boundless compassion for both people and animals.  He still works, however, to calm his brain when it’s time to focus in the classroom and on tiresome subjects (like writing u0026amp; multiplication he says).  But the Carrara household is so different from where it was just 3 short years ago. It is no more a place of chaos and struggle but rather a home where peace is more commonplace than not. Healing and recovery continues but joy is no longer elusive. It is Present, just like Charlie.

Topics I Can Help You With

01.

ADHD & ODD--Parenting that breaks the Anger

Do you have an angry child? Traditional reactive parenting focused on discipline and punishments will not get you far with the high-intensity child. (Trust me- I tried that for years!) But shifting to an Honor Parenting Model brings success time and time again- even for the most challenging kids

02.

Diet

Gut-healing is the premise, and offering anti-inflammatory diet (excluding the common triggers!) starts us on the journey to healing.

03.

School

Your ADHD child’s education is critical, but parents often misunderstand how to gauge success.  I can shed light here –even if that means a non-traditional route or offering the gift of time by holding or repeating a grade. The key is meeting your child where they ARE so they may thrive.

04.

Supplements

Supplements were essential to getting my son to his next level of healing (and, yes even I was surprised by that!) I share my journey with supplements and provide resources for you to find your child’s best regimen.

05.

Healing Anxiety in Kids

Children saying, “I have anxiety” is becoming commonplace. Allow me to shift your perspective on anxiety and give you tools to break this habit of your child’s fearful thinking. Yes, this is what Anxiety Is and as we understand more, we learn how to TEACH our child to drop their fearful thinking. (Spoiler Alert- Once mom learns these tricks, her anxiety walks right out the door as well.)

06.

How to Spot Evidence of Healing

Healing ADHD behaviors holistically takes time and parents often quit the journey when they don’t see healing.  Allow me to teach you WHAT to look for so you can stay on track. Holistic healing comes Gradually…Suddenly.  It’s like watching one’s hair grow. The process is almost imperceptible… then ‘suddenly’ you need a haircut.

07.

Understanding Detox and its Importance for Healing

Many children with ADHD behaviors have systems with toxic overload, including yeast, mold, heavy metals, medications, inflammatory foods, etc.  The goal is to allow the child’s body to eliminate these toxic substances naturally so that inflammation decreases. (This concept is especially important regarding those children who seemingly have a ‘brain on fire’.) As you continue to provide the body the best conditions, including gut-healing foods, the natural process of elimination continues rapidly.

08.

Alleviating Sleep Issues

Many children with ADHD behaviors have great difficulty with going to sleep and/or staying asleep.  Diet and targeted supplements prove miraculous in this area and success comes quickly.
